What Are Seniors Looking For
Senior citizens should be on the top of the minds of developers as much the millennials due to the fact they are looking for the same things in a home and it's location. Older Americans care just as much about "walkability" and all the services that are available in dense urban neighborhoods as do the Generation X & Millennials home buyers. A Place for Mom, recently reported that seniors prefer walkability and closeness to urban centers. Over 50% of older adults that live in a senior apartment like to be able to walk places, while 38% who live alone and 26% that live in assisted living homes.
Older Americans are looking for the type of housing that is close by to their families & friends, as well as their doctors and hospitals. One other key point that seniors are looking for are low crime areas that allow places that are safe to walk to. A majority of seniors find that a good public transportation system is somewhat important in their search. Easy access to shopping especially supermarkets also attract senior home buyers. Charles Severn who is the head of marketing fro A Place or Mom says that "the data can help inform local politicians and relevant stakeholders before making choices around zoning and the allocations of resources for public services."
